Purchasing has to be more than just filling a PO based on ordering controls out of the system. We are getting squeezed from every direction and our margins are reflecting that squeeze. Data analytics has to be brought into the picture as well as a close relationship with key suppliers. Do they arrange to return overstock, especially if you lose a key customer? Can they get the analytics to show which items and lines are producing less than the desired margin? Can they place a blanket order with the vendor for an estimated year's supply?
